Mecca Bingo submits views on slots tax
Mecca Bingo's parent group, Rank Bingo, has submitted their views to the UK Treasury on proposed changes to the tax regime on slot machines.
The submission says that in order for Rank Group to not suffer from the switch to a gross profit
tax (GPT) on slot machines that the rate would have to be set at 15 per cent.
“This level of taxation would be consistent with the current rates of general betting
duty (sports betting), remote gaming duty (internet betting and gaming), football pools duty and
the starting rate of casino gaming duty,” the submission states.

Bingo operations mentioned rarely by William Hill and Playtech
William Hill and Playtech have both released trading updates in the last 24 hours and neither
company are mentioning their online bingo operations in any detail.
Playtech said that operational highlights included “launch of a new version of Playtech's bingo
product which will be further boosted by increased liquidity contributed by existing and new licensees” while William Hill said that “gaming activities, consisting of casino, poker, bingo and skill games, are performing well and in line with management expectations, delivering net revenue growth of 98% in Q3 (pro forma 12%).”
The two companies joined their online operations into one trading unit in October 2008. The division, headed by Henry Birch, has spent the last year working out how to integrate the two companies' online gaming assets.

Abergele resident wins £67k with 25p stake!
A lucky lady from Abergele, Wales, has had all her dreams come true after winning more than £67k from just a 25p bet on Gala Bingo.The winning player managed to hit the jackpot on the leading online bingo site's popular ‘Galaxy Bingo' side game.

Big boost to Party Gaming
The acquisition of online bingo giant Cashcade showed immediate results for Party Gaming.
Cashcade owns Foxy Bingo, Cheeky Bingo, Think Bingo, Little Big Bingo and Bingo Scotland
and also runs white label bingo sites, with the biggest client being Mirror Bingo.
In the three months to 30 September the bingo sites, including Party Bingo, recorded net
revenues of $150,000 per day with 189,800 active players during the three month period and
48,400 new player sign ups. An average day saw 15,700 active players across their sites.
During the three months each active player contributed $72.70 of revenue, or an average of
$9.50 per day on each day they were active.
Total revenue across Party Gaming rose 11% to $112.7 million but poker revenue dropped 8%,
hit by lower staking players. Sports betting revenue increased 31% but remains a tiny part
of Party's overall business.

Bingo companies feature prominently in the Power 50 rankings compiled by leading gambling industry magazine eGaming Review.

Six of the top ten placed companies get significant revenue contributions from online bingo. Bet 365, who run Bet365 Bingo, came in at fourth, followed by William Hill and Ladbrokes at fifth and sixth. Paddy Power was placed eight with Unibet, who own Maria Bingo, placed at ninth.Gamesys was placed highest at no 32, down from no 28 last year.Next in the list is Gala Coral, parent company of Gala Bingo, who have slid rapidly down the Power 50 from a position of 11th last year.

Deal or No Deal bingo games come to Virtue Fusion sites
Virtue Fusion, the software company that powers top bingo sites including Crown Bingo, Ladbrokes
Bingo, William Hill Bingo, Bet365 Bingo, Mecca Bingo, Paddy Power Bingo and Sky Bingo, have signed a deal with Endemol, who own the rights to the Deal Or No Deal game show.
The exclusive deal has allowed Virtue Fusion to spend the last four months developing an exciting new variation on online bingo in which the winner gets to play against the Banker.
Virtue Fusion will also launch scratchcards for Endemol formats including Big Brother and Golden Balls, as well as for Deal Or No Deal. They are expected to release mini games and slot games in future software updates.

Fewer customers at Mecca Bingo
Mecca Bingo reported growth in revenues but there were concerns that customer numbers continue to fall.Customer visits at Mecca Bingo halls declined 3% based on a comparison with the same period in 2008 but customer spend increased 4%, largely thanks to the introduction of new slot machines.
Revenue across Mecca Bingo increased 3% for the 14 weeks to 4 October 2009 but much of
this was down to the change in bingo taxation which has the effect of increasing revenue
numbers but reducing operating profit figures.

Northern Ireland Relaxed Their Laws On Bingo
Northern Ireland’s bingo halls may be allowed to open on Sunday following the announcement of a government review of gambling laws.
Northern Ireland Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie said there was a need to update current legislation which is “not robust enough to deal with modern gambling”.
The current laws date from 1985; in 2006 the government planned to update them but failed to do so after waiting for devolution to return in order to pass them.
It is expected that the law changes will also clarify the rules on online bingo companies advertising on TV in Northern Ireland. Currently bingo companies cannot advertise on Northern Irish television.
