MONTGOMERY AL- Crowds of people on both sides of the electronic bingo debate currently taking over Alabama rallied at the Alabama State House.Over the past month, Governor Bob Riley’s task force on illegal gambling has threatened to perform raids on bingo halls to confiscate machines that he believes are illegal.The pro-bingo group, many of whom worked for casinos and bingo halls in the state shouted, “Bob took our jobs!” Three large-scale bingo premises have been closed, leaving thousands unemployed. Many of the bingo supporters rallying in Montgomery worked at Victoryland or Country Crossing.The state governor himself joined the anti-bingo rally. Riley could hardly be heard over the shouting by the protestors but he did say “the law in Alabama is clear that electronic bingo machines are illegal slot machines and casinos lead to more poverty rather than creating jobs.”

Revenue up but new players down at Party Bingo sites

Revenues at Party Gaming's bingo sites rose 25 per cent over the past three months but player numbers fell and new sign ups dropped sharply.Party's sites include Foxy Bingo, Think Bingo, Cheeky Bingo, Bingo Scotland and the recently re-branded Party Bingo. Most of their bingo sites were acquired last summer when they took over Cashcade in a £95 million deal.While total bingo revenue rose 25 per cent to £17.3 million in the three months to December 31, 2009, unique active players fell 4 per cent to 182,700 and new sign ups fell 23 per cent to 37,200. On average there were 18,800 players per day across all their sites and each player lost $10 (£6) per day. The fall is attributed to a far lower television presence for Foxy Bingo in the run up to Christmas.
